With the hesitation of a new member perhaps offering images already seen (I do try to check, but don't yet know my way around the entire site), I thought there might be some forumers here who are still to enjoy seeing these two images of the 6,250 tonne Spanish F100 Alvaro De Bazan in Sydney Harbour last year, as a glimpse into the future of our own AWD orders.

I thought the first image is striking.

I know there is a lot about on the AWD program, but again here is the Wikipedia link with a pretty comprehensive summary and links.

Edit: for some reason the thumbnail attachments are rejecting that first image I referred to - so here it is direct through my host-site.

First of all, Laughing Jackass :D don't worry about posting things here that have been posted before. It's just not important. In fact I seem to recall posting this one or a similar one some time ago. Who cares?

As for attachments being rejected, have you checked what is said at the top of the attachment window after trying to download? The usual error is exceeding the size limits here.

The Hobart Class is things to come I guess. Let's hope the RAN can find enough men to sail them.

I'm looking forward to the RAN getting advanced tech. The Hobart class is, in my mind, ten years behind where it should be ie; on the water instead of still in the planning stage. But then, the technology is at least nearly 30 years old, since Phased Array and VLS was mounted on the USN's Ticonderoga class cruises.

I'm with Herk, dont stress Kookaburra, they are nice pics! A scene which I hope we get to see alot of out of Sydney.

I got to tour the Bazan here in Fremantle, I'm hoping the pics you see here are soon to be common place scenes out of Freo too! Only the White Ensign, Red Kangaroo, and hull number are missing (but if you just squint...hehe)

Enjoy

Cheeky Terry! We do get decent warships here, all the time.

BUT...

They can at least afford the fuel, not look like either a modern art sculpture from the Tate, or like Corgi built them:D Hahahahaha!

One last gag...do they need a toy key to wind them up and go...

Sorry, can't resist...Its built, so when will Gordon Brown sell it to Romania!

Yours in Jest:)

Jest away Ian - as that was exactly what I was doing!

I do believe that HMS Daring is about 75% of a good ship - but sadly we will only have six maximum if that many!

Plus Brown is just as likely to sell her to Chile or Brazil!!

Hi Terry

Hey look at it this way, you get six! The RAN will only get three Hobart class DDG's! But when they are needed, listen to the Politicans scream that they weren't told!

Navies, always between the rocks and the DEEP blue seas when dealing with the elected civil servants!

It's a lovely picture, even if it is Spanish!

Nigel,

Tardy reply but I do agree with this: the new ships are not nearly so 'interesting' to go and look at in all kinds of ways, even if you could get close - as we did as kids, and in the days before Homeland Security.

However, as we become more accustomed to stealth designs, I do find that the older straight-edged ships with complex arays on top are very quickly beginning to feel out-of-date - including the RAN's newly modernised Adelaide Class (O.H. Perry) ships. cheers K.
