As there appears to be a few avid collectors of postcards I thought I would post this small collection of pin-up postcards.

They were very popular during ww2 and many notable artists contributed to the cause. They depicted pin-up girls in various military guises, these are some with a naval or nautical connection.

Don't get too hot under the collar chaps.

Does anyone else collect these sort of things?

Alan

This 2nd batch of postcards show how the images were used to boost morale, several were used in recruitment campaigns.

In particular the artist Vargas painted numerous scantily clad women some with a military theme, most of his works were depicted as 'noseart' on the noses of US Bombers during WW2.

Well done Alan, really superb work. May I suggest that you get your two efforts reproduced on some mugs and then sell them off to all readers of the forum with any profits going to an Armed Forces charity? I for one would be very happy to purchase one of each.

Mik

There’s a lot to be said for a pretty face.

My wife was a nurse when I met her, so she was my “first medical acquisition”. :D She used to say that a pretty face did more good than any surgeon or medicine.

You can put me down for two mugs, and just for once I won’t even mind the cost of postage. :)

Terrific, Alan. Cheered me up no end. Much better than page3. Mmmm, right; I'll just have a spray of my angina medicine and a little lie down.

Only just found the thread. Excellent pics. Are my eyes getting worse or do I only see girls sporting American navy uniforms? I'll lay a pound to a pinch of navy snuff, that we ain't got WRNS in such scanty attire. (Stepping on dangerous ground here. The missus was a wren when I married her).

Bob, I agree that you don't see British ones for some reason, would have thought with our sea-side humour postcards there would have been someone who decided to follow the American lead.

Anyhow, with that in mind I've adapted a couple of those already posted, then also re-created these to a Royal Navy theme.......hope you like them.

With such a vast amount of these around I have taken the liberty of using a few that I thought would make great pin-ups for some of the Royal Navy ships.........what do you think?

Wot, No HMS Moon?

Ok Clive, hope this one is suitable.

This artwork was created by Earl Moran who worked with Marilyn Monroe when she was still known as Norma Jean, he did several paintings of her many of them nude.....not suitable for this site;)

The other photo is one of the stills from the photo-shoot that he created the painting from.

Can I download HMS Witch please? I think it is a picture of my mother in law as a teenager. She was born on 31st October, Halloween.

Though not post cards the back of the classic in house journal ‘Flight Deck’ always had a Nautical but Nice pin-ups until it was stopped in 1977 (presumably because it was no longer PC!). Here is one at random – anybody recognise her? There was also a Flight Safety in house journal, which used to carry cartoons, which were even more nautical but nice (some drawn by Tugg I believe) – any ex FAA members with copies of ‘Flight Safety’?

John,

Well done - absolutely right - clearly you still have your nautical eye!
Here is another Flight Deck cover, from 1968. The security classification refers to the house journal rather than the picture. Great shame they were not in colour.
