View Full Version : Ardito
I am looking for information on this vessel during march 1943 and an attack on a submarine during that period.
Does anybody have any photographs of this vessel?

Hi Linton - yes I do - but it is not up to my usually preferred level of quality. However it is certainly better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick so here it is!

You did see the picture I posted above?
Terry, thank you for the picture.I have Conway's book on warships of the period and a Janes from 1940 but neither show that vessel or her sisters. It certainly seems a strong possibility that Ardito was the vessel that sank Turbulent.

Two pics attached.
You might also want to enter the following google search line:
Yellow Periscope Series "Ardito"
as this will take you to a book on sale in Japan and other area's, mainly for modelling.
Ardito was taken over by the Germans in 1943 and sunk by US PT boats.
Sorry about the size of the pictures.

However, according to these web sites, Ardito may have been innocent?

A couple of months ago I had the great pleasure of having lunch with Vice-Admiral Sir Antony Troup. He was the first lieutenant of HMS Turbulent for a lot of her patrols and was sent on his Perisher just before Linton and Turbulent was lost.He commisioned an investigation into the loss in the 1990s which has not as far as I know been made public.I have a copy of this report and will publish its findings as sson as I have read it!
