The cruiser Murmansk near in Norway is to be raised and removed amid worries over pollution it may cause.

Here's a pic of the half sunk hulk of CL Murmansk off Norway....such good neighbors the Norwegians have! DFO :rolleyes:

AF Decom has been commissioned by the Norwegian Coastal Administration to remove the wreck of the former cruiser, “Murmansk.” The method proposed is considered the safest according to health, environment, and technical feasibility.

Hadn't heard about the wreck. Looks from the aerial view that she had to slide over a reef to get to a final rest. I will say the Russians did/do build some pretty ships.

Current plans of Russia to modernize and expand their military make it an expedient to garner materials from their Soviet era Bases and the equipment left where it was disposed with when it became a combat casualty. Regards
