I am currently preparing my grandfather's memoirs for publication and would be very interested to hear from anyone who served with him. He died on the 18th of July 2005 but built up a large archive of photographs and written notes. The project passed to me and is now almost complete after nearly two years of work.
Norman Harry Mills (Millsy) was reclassified from the RN on the 19th March 1940 into the Fleet Air Arm FX. 79020. He served on the aircraft carriers HMS Argus, Furious and Formidable in the Atlantic, Arctic & Mediterranean convoys including Pedestal and was attached to the 1st Army in North Africa (Royal Naval Battalion) during the Torch Landings. After the invasion of Sicily and mainland Italy, he was at HMS Heron, Yeovilton with a recurrence of Malaria (June -November 1944). He rejoined Formidable in April '45, after sailing from Liverpool through the Panama Canal on the liner Sterling Castle. Unfortunately, he ran out of film in 1945 so if any of his old shipmates have any photographs of him during Formidable's Pacific run - please get in touch.
Thank you.
