Hi everybody
I'm new but I'm old!! Joined the Royal Navy in 1950 and served until 1972. Did my training at Pompey, then HMS Ceres. Then HMS Daedalus attached to 801, 813, 814 FAA Squadrons. Then HMS Indomitable followed by HMS Vanguard from 52-54 taking part in Coronation Review at Spithead. I was promoted to Petty Officer on Vanguard. Back to Daedalus then to HMS Bulwark for 2 years, doing virtually a World Cruise. Then 2 years in the Bluejacket Band at Pompey followed by HMS Grafton for 2 years. Then RNAS Lossiemouth after which drafted to HMS Victorious when she was in dry-dock at Pompey, suffering a severe fire after which she was scrapped and I was drafted to HMS Hermes serving on her for 2 years during which time I was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. Then Pompey Barracks and a lovely draft to HMS Triumph based in Singapore where I was allowed to take my family. 2 years on her and back to UK and Fort Southwick, Pompey and from there to civvy street - unfortunately!!
Enjoyed every minute and would do it all again given the chance.
