Attack on the German Battleship TIRPITZ, lying at anchor in the Altafjord in Norway, by the Fleet Air Arm on the 3rd. of April 1944. The task force was led by Vice-Admiral H.R.Moore.H.M.S.Fencer in company with H.M.S.Royalist, Furious, Searcher, Pursuer and Emperor. Carried out the 2 strikes that were made on the Tirpitz, with the loss of 2 aircraft.Tirpitz received 14 direct hits and was left no longer seaworthy, putting her out of action for some
3 months.Of its crew 112 were killed and 316 wounded, seriously, this in effect gave some relief to the men, ships and escorts of the Arctic Convoys. Fencer provided anti U-Boat and Air patrols for the task force. When we reached Scapa Flow, we were cheered in by the Fleet in the Flow &
