Having just joined the forums, thought I should say hello to everyone and tell you a little about myself

I am 59 years old, originally from Southport, Lancashire. Joined Ganges aged 15 as JS, leaving as JRO

Old ships:-
HMS Ganges 22 Sep 64 - 15 Sep 65
HMS Mercury 16 Sep 65 - 24 Feb 66 (plus odd times in-between)
HMS Eagle 25 Feb 66 - 15 Sep 66
HMS Glamorgan 16 Sep 66 - 9 Apr 69
HMS Tyne (SM2) 10 Apr 69 - 8 Aug 70
HMS Brinton 9 Aug 70 - 21 Jan 71
HMS Osprey (FOST) 22 Jan71 - 9 May 71
HMS Plymouth May 10 May 71 - 26 Aug 73
FO Plymouth (Mount Wise) 27 Aug 73 - 12 Jun 74
HMS Rooke (Commcen/Windy Hill Signal Station) 13 Jun 74 - 11 Mar 76
HMS Drake (Discharge) 26 Jun 76

At the time was married to Linda (Janner), with 2 children, Gail and Clare. Went back to live in Southport. Took it easy for 9 months (couldn't find a job ). March 77 started work for Merseyside Police as Support Staff, been there ever since  Third child, Lee (now in RAF )

Now live in Waterloo, just outside Liverpool, with my partner of 23 years, Jackie. Linda, Gail and Lee went back to Guzz to be near her family. Clare stayed with us (only for 13 years though !) as she was working. Having shared a flat with a mate in Southport, she is now back with us for a time (invited) to save a bit of cash as she is trying to get a mortgage. Good to have her back though :)

For the last 10 years I have been Secretary of HMS Plymouth Association, which is what led me to these forums ~ see Bob's post in RN Ships and Crews>Help Save HMS Plymouth.

Looking forward to retirement ~ far too much to do without working

Good to be with you all, hopefully for a long and happy draft :D

Yours Aye

Martin Slater

Welcome "Sandgrounder", my wife and I both have Sandgrounder parents and remember Southport when it was a nice clean resort before Merseyside took it over.
It's nice to have another ex Ganges lad on the forum and we look forward to your salty yarns and to share with you your pictures!

Cheers, Bob.

Welcome Martin, Only been on the forums a few weeks myself, but already my missus reckons she is a forums widow, beware - it is additive but great.
I too was a Communicator [Sparker - Ganges 53]. You will no doubt know my great friend, now sadly crossed the bar, Ronnie Hill - operated the ham station on Plymouth. He took me thru my Tel's, Killicks and RS's courses and we remained good friends and run ashore buddies until the end.
Good luck with your surfing.
Regards
Dave :)
