View Full Version : Hello from Hampshire
Hello, I discovered this forum while researching Vadne, a ferry boat that plied its trade between Portsmouth and Gosport for many years. I also have an interest in HMS Barham, my father's older brother was a Royal Marine who died when Barham was sunk in November 1941. He was just 20 years of age.

Welcome aboard Peter.
The BARHAM was sunk on 25/11/1941 by U-boat torpedoes, off Sollum, Egypt. Mediterranean with the loss of 884 lives, including 105 marines.
I am sure someone will be along soon with pics of the BARHAM.

Hi John, I did get a friend to check it and he believes it is Hms Abdiel.
before my time I'm afraid, I trust it's genuine as it came from a good source.

Thank you all for the welcome. With regard to my Uncle, here is a link that will be of interest. http://www.hmsbarham.com/profiles/details.php?source=1&personID=709
You are a lucky man today, Here is my prized possession, this photo is the most expensive I have ever paid for a photo, I'm led to believe it was probably the last photo taken before she was sunk.
Thank you, what a wonderful picture of HMS Barham, one that I have never seen before. It is also very poignant, bearing in mind that it was probably taken shortly before the sinking. That picture and crest now reside firmly on my hard drive, valuable additions indeed to the family history.

Alan posted a great picture of Barham recently but then removed it for his own reasons which is fair enough.
However, I have found another copy of the same picture which, although not in as a good condition as Alans, does give those members that missed it first time round, a chance to view it.

I was reading thro' this thread and suddenly became mystified because people were refering to a picture I couldn't find. The situation only became clear when I got to JB's post above.
To avoid this happening again, I think it would be most useful if an automatic post could be inserted stating that a post had been withdrawn.
