H.M. Submarine M.2 was lost in West bay, off Portland Bill during an exercise. M.2 carried a Peto aircraft aboard, and it was thought that it was through the hangar door being left opened that the boat sunk. An attempt was made to raise the boat but it was unsuccessful. There were no survivors of the sinking and two airman were also lost with M.2.
The captain Lt.Cdr. J.D. De M. Leathes was also lost.
