Hello, I have just registered on behalf of my Father in Law who was a crew member of HMS Ronaldsay, an Isle class Admiralty Trawler, during WWII. I am trying to find out about this craft, a picture, any stories. If there is anyone out there with some information I would be grateful. My Father in law is getting on and I think he would like some memento of this interesting time in his life. Thanks.

Not much I'm afraid....... her pennant no. was T149 and she was built by Cochrane & Sons Shipbuilding (Selby UK). She was laid down 7/10/1940, launched 14/2/1941 and commissioned 17/07/1941. She survived the war and was sold in August 1946.

Good luck

Hi
Have just found your post re HMS Ronaldsay after searching for some info on my wife’s family.
His name was Archibald Stirling Lt RNR and he served on the HMS Ronaldsay 1941 1942.
We have a photo of the ship signed by the officers and ships company.
If you let me know what name you are looking for I will see if he has signed it

Welcome to the forum Alan.
Better still why don't you scan the picture and post it on this thread so that we can all see it?
Just an idea!

Hi all

I have posted this photo that includes Archibald Stirling C.O. of the HMS Ronaldsay (Front Row Far Right) with other naval officers
I don't know what year or who the other officers are or even if it is a ships company
It may be of interest but doubt anyone is known
Wish I had listened more when he was alive

By the way A fantastic site think im hooked

Regards

Alan

Interesting to see three Senior Rates in the back row. The Chief PO? rear left is wearing a single breasted jacket, does anyone know if that was this the norm at that time, or could he be a sick bay tiffy or steward?
