"Four weeks in May " tells the story of the captain of the "COVENTRY" and the ships action during the Falklands conflict and its final moments when it was hit by bombs from 2 Argentinian Skyhawks. I recommend this book to any ex serviceman, it was such a good read that I finished the book on the day that I purchased it-- put you right in the ship during the action and read about the suffering that the crew experienced both in the ship and when they abandoned her into those icy waters, my heart bled for them.
The Author is the Skipper of that ship Captain David Hart Dyke now retired from the navy---a Captainsstory of war at sea, both in paperback and hard back.

I have just finished "Sink the Belgrano" by Mike Rossiter. Just out in corgi Paperback at £6.99. Bought my copy in Sainsbury`s a couple of days ago!
Again a good read from both sides view point...Especially detailing the role of HMS Conqueror.

I`ll look out for that one Terry, anything to do with the Navy out there I`m interested in, the RN learnt a hard lesson on the state of their ships out there which allowed modifications on all new ships coming from the builders but yet Iread somewhere that the steel which these ships are being constructed with is half the thickness of previous ships, whats their idea for that I wonder?

Just clicked on to Waterstones site and they have that book in for £20, so it seems a visit to Sainsbury is now on the agenda--saving the penny!!!!!!

This has been sitting on my shelf for a few months now waiting patiently for me to read it. Other than a bit of Sea Harrier action I haven't read anything on the Falklands so should really get stuck into this.
I bought my copy for A$12 from an Angus & Robertson sale in Melbourne. Have since seen it at several other sales in Victoria and NSW so it seems to be bloody good value if you can get it. What did Hart Dyke go onto after the war?

Guess what. I walked into Poundland at Washington today, to stock up on batteries, and there on the shelves were several copies of "Four Weeks in May", by David Hart Dyke. There is now one less:D

Jim,
Are you saying that Four weeks in May is available for £1 in Poundland? would seem to be a bargain!
I got Sink the Belgrano (hardback) for £2.95 in the 'Work' (ex 'Banana').

Jim,
Just got back from our local 'Poundland' - interesting shop but sadly no copy of 'Four Weeks in May'. I wonder if other Poundland shops have copies?
Captain David Hart-Dyke was my skipper. Totally respected by every member of his ships company. He remained in the navy after the war; after retiring from the RN he worked in the City of London.
