Victoria Regina RNLSGC and BWM Group to Frederick William Hicks. The VRLSGC is properly named as F.W. HICKS SK:B.STEWd 2nd CL: H.M.S. CLEOPATRA with the BWM named as 109085 F.W. HICKS CH.S.B.S. R.N.

I was interested in the grouping first because of his rating upon the VR which in my knowledge is an uncommon and secondly that he attained the rating of Chief Sick berth Attendant (Wardmaster).

Frederick W. Hicks was born at Stoke Damerel,Devon on 7th of March 1861 and enlisted as a Act Sick Bert Attnd at Devonport on the 27th of May 1879.

During his time in Her Majesty's Navy he served upon the following of which some were more than one time:

1. HMS Royal Adelaide
2. HMS Agincourt
3. HMS Minotaur
4. HMS Lion
5. HMS Cambridge
6. HMS Impregnable
7. HMS Cleopatra ---- Medla was traced 16/10/1889
"Comus" Class Steam Corvette that was built by Elder, Glasgo and launched 1/8/1878 At a length of 225 she weighed 2,380 tons with a complement of 265. Her armanents were 4-6", 8-5", 4-3pdr, 6 MG and 2 Torpedo tubes.

Asst Sick Berth Attendant: 27 May 1879
Sick Berth Attend: 19 August 1885
2nd Sick Berth Steward: 13 April 1886
Sick Berth Steward: 28 October 1891
Chief Sick Berth Steward: 5 February 1898

Hicks served from May 1879 until being pensioned on August 01, 1901. He was subsequently recalled to duty for WW-I on August 2, 1914 and served at shore establishments until December 26, 1918.

I know from the RN rolls that the BWM is his only War entitlement and believe that the pair is his full entitlement

Did he serve in the RN Auxiliary Sick Berth Reserve when he was pensioned?

I do not have any information past his WW-I service so I can't really say if he did or did not.

Thanks for that, I was wondering if he had continued his training or just been mobilized after 14 years on the pension.
