Recently got this striking photograph of a Russian warship with a pennant of I think 550. Any thoughts on identity please?

Commodore Armiger

Kara Class Cruiser. Not Kerch - 539 - (only one currently in service).

As an Able Seaman I ought to know better than to disagree with Chief Petty Officer/Commodore Armiger, but I believe that the ship is a Kresta I class (Project 1134) cruiser, not a Kara. There are some pictures at http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/row/rus/1134.htm. The configuration, weapon fit and sensors don't match a Kara - see http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/row/rus/1134_2.htm

I agree with tjs that it is a Kresta - but which one? The Russian pennant numbering is often a minefield...

Ship in question is a Kresta 1, pennant number 550 is the Sevastopol.
Couple of images taken in a Russian Military Museum.

- These torpedo boats where in service for the romanian royal navy - from 1907;
- the ships was build by Thames Iron Works and Shipbuilding Company, Orchard Yard, Blackwall, in 1906, there been made 8 torpedo boats.

A very good scale model of this torpedo boat can be seen at Science Museum from London

This Russian ship came unusually close to HMS Tiger whilst we were in the Med. Can anyone shed any light on name etc please. Sorry not particularly good quality - scanned from a slide.
