These may be of interest, this ship is the last of her class still operational.

Excellent photo`s Gary M. Has to be said she is a fine looking ship. I am surprised that she was the only one of these Destroyers that were radically modernised...
Welcome to the forum anyway Gary. Do you have a specific interest in Russian Warships, as I have noticed that all three of your posts have been about them?
Hi Terry,
Thanks for the welcome, my interest in the Russian/Soviet navy goes back to 1960 and computers have made it possible to build a good data base from a lot of sources.
In saying that I am an avid collector of Naval photographs and am currently trying to build a collection of WW1 submarines, those of the Kaiserlich Marine seem to be very scarce. Finding good clear photographs from that period is not easy but it does happen.

As an avid collector myself - I wholeheartedly agree with you!

I have just started construction of a Kashin class ship at scale 1/72. I would be very grateful for any GOOD close up pictures of this class of ship. I have been over the net but as said already these ships don't have many pictures online.
Since I have only started the hull I can pick any ship in the class to build but will tend to go for the one with the most info. Prefer a true Russian not the Indian or Polish ones, the images help though.

No offence Dennis but rather than posting a few pictures it might be more useful to instead post any links that you think would be of interest to our members.
Many thanks.

Thanks people, any images or links are acceptable. I have been over the net and had a good search around. I'm really looking for good close up images. Or images that may be under different names or locations.

Terry, you have confused me mate...
the pics posted in #6 and #10 apparently both came from the net...
all the pics in post #6 show the ships from waterline to masthead and above;
whilst...
the close up pics in post #10 are what they say, close ups but not of the entire ship areas... there are no pics of the main mast top equipment.
thus my confusion is ... why was Dennis 'moved' in the direction of posting links and not Gary?
But whatever the answer the close up pics are of 'spy camera' quality and fantastic!!!

Hi, If you read the posts you will find I have given the Russian site on a previous posting. For those that have trouble negotiating that site here are a few more images with close ups of the electronicss.

Harry - I dont know what you are trying to say. Firstly Gary posted BOTH the link to the site the pictures came from plus helpfully a selection of large hi-res pictures in case members found the Russian site difficult to navigate.
Dennis posted a selection of pictures that although showed the whole of the ship were small and low-resolution and of little use to anyone wanting detail. As he said they came from various sites I thought the links might have been useful especially as he sent the pictures in response to an enquiry from a member looking for large detailed pictures!
Anyway dont worry about it - just enjoy the pictures. If this still doesn`t make sense then by all means send me a PM - you know my door is always open to you.

Cheers for that Terry.... No probs!!!
I can't get over the quality/detail provided by the pics provided by Gary!!
It is like having to do 'course work' back in the 60's only with all the pics being great!!!

No doubt, wonderful ship. I heard they called her " the Singing Frigate" due to the fact that when she was steaming on a full speed the wind was wistling in her masts. Also I heard some rumors that the appearance of her hull was created by the lady - designer. That is why she is so good lookig.

Yes, Gary, you are rigt. As per the year 2009 she was the last one of 20 sister-ships operated in Russian Black See Fleet. She was commisioned in 1969.
So my reply to Steeve - the Last of the Mohikans is still alive. :D with more than 40 years of active service. Not bad, eh?
Here are some latest pics of her made in Sevastopol (http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=824408)

May I complement you all on the very high quality of the photographs of the "SMET". Still a very active asset to the Black Sea Fleet.
Why not modernize her AA missile system too? Probably because of a large quantity of missiles are still stockpiled in various depots. The cost of conversion could not be justified either, so one day soon this fine ship will follow its sisters to the Indian Scrap dealers
(They could have gone for two extra URAN launchers, giving 16 ready to fire, as in the Indian Navy)

a few good close up photographs of Smetlivy from the Russian site.
First class pictures, thanks for those.
Can you (or anyone) identify the shelter like structures with the 2 ladders inside between the mainmast and the after-funnel. They look like half built extendable helicopter hangars but of course they are not.
Loading access to the missile silos ? Theories, suggestions, certainties ....

Certainly a "survivor"; altho one might wonder how combat effective she would be against a MODERN waeship....like, for example, a Burke or Daring? Then again, versus a modern air attack, how could she do? I guess she continues the Russian "tradition" of keeping "OLD" warships in their fleet...for example the Petyr Veliki of the 1800s. Nice photos of her tho!!........DFO

Thanks for the pictures mate. They will come in very handy when I get that far with the model.
Currently I'm working on the Admiral Kuznetsov at 1/72 and this is giving me night mares at the moment. I will get back to the Kashin soon. I had a deck on mine but wasn't to happy with the result so started again by ripping the deck off. Now I will have to remake the deck hopefully this time a bit stronger. The previous one was to weak and started to warp.
I've talked a friend of mine to build one also.
If anyone out there has good close up shots of the Kashin Class Smetlivy please post them here. You can never have to many.
