Some of you will know from previous posts that I attended the 50th Anniversary commemorations of D-Day in Normandy. I crossed the Channel on the old liner Canberra, a veteran of the Falklands War, along with 1500 veterans of the Normandy landings.
On 4th June 1994 the ships formed up and anchored off Spithead, IOW. On the morning of the 5th June the Queen a reviewed the ‘fleet’ on the Royal Yacht ‘Brittania’ and then we sailed for Normandy.
Attached are photos I took (not all great quality) of some of the ships in that review and one of a couple Normandy vets onboard Canberra.
The final photo is taken through the bar window when the Lancaster of the Battle of Britain Flight ‘bombed’ Canberra with 750,000 poppies whilst in mid Channel.
