Hi,

Have been interested in the Navy and warships since I was 5 years old. (Now 63). My father, uncle, and my uncles's brother all served on the Australian cruiser HMAS Perth in WW2.

I have a website on HMAS Perth at:
http://www.perthone.com/perth.htm

and one on RN Dressingline Flags at:
http://www.perthone.com/1df.htm

look forward to sharing info on the Forum
Cheers

G'Day Spruso! Are you just in Oz or are you one of us?

Anyway. welcome to the Forum.

There are several threads here related to HMAS Perth. I suppose, like the rest of us, that you are following the exciting discovery of Sydney off WA. There are several threads on her as well. I've just added to one of them today.

And we have a thread on dressing flags, put there - I think - by the man whose site you refer to.

There are also a significant number of posts in the Australian Ships part of the forum.

I hope you stay with us and become a regular contributor here.

If you do, how about updating your profile to tell us where you are.

Hi Bruce, glad to see you 'on board'. I only stumbled upon this forum recently and subsequently signed up and have found things quite informative, and especially like the selection of photos various folks put up at times.

And for, predominately, a bunch of 'limeys' they seem not a bad bunch of guys (and gals) to boot.:D ;) :D (No offence meant!)

Still, its good to have another ozzie on deck!

Hope to see more of you!

Kevin

Hi
Yes a born and bred Aussie. Lived here all my life.

Can't knock the Poms though! My grandfather was a WW1 Australian Army soldier who was badly injured at Passchendaele. If I was doing something back to front he would always say, " Yer doin' it like a bloody Pommy son! - the bloody hard way!" I found over the years there was a lot of truth in his words and, if there wasn't a hard way, they'd invent one.

However, I had the good fortune to spend 6 weeks in England and Scotland in Autumn 2002 and absolutely loved it. They are wonderful people. I could live there no problem but I don't know if I could handle winter. Can't wait to get back for another hol though.

NZedders aren't a bad mob either except when they beat us at Rugby ( Which is pretty often!)

Lived a bit in the USA back in the 1960's and a lot of great people there as well.

Like anywhere I've been in the world, the "man in the street" is a pretty good bloke no matter what his nationality.
Cheers for now

I'm with you. We don't knock the Poms. They're a good bunch. Similar to you but it was my father that somehow staggered through WW1 in the RHA.

And I too have had several very happy times in England. Though the skies are always grey!

And yes, the "man in the street" is the same the world over. It's the people who run the place that I don't like too much!
