The title should be in caps HMAS...?? sorry for the typo!

The attached photo is another one taken by me, which has surfaced, however I have the original colour slide among my photos in a cabin trunk in the garage... when I can get in there to find it.... and I'll see if I can scan a clearer image, however does any Aussie RAN's recognise the destroyer?? taken in January 1970.

There is a MWL alongside presumably 'topping her up' and what looks a bit like a mine sweeper ahead of her...!

Not entirely sure but it could be a Voyager class destroyer.

Just for info - and to prevent the thread starter from thinking he is going mad - the thread name was changed from HMAS to Hmas automatically. It was part of the anti-shouting (all caps) filter that was on the site. I have now extended the limit to 5 letters rather than 3 so that HMAS can be used. I also changed the thread title.

Looks like a Daring class with "Colac" and an MSL alongside and Ton class at the bow

My guess would be Vampire. The numbers on the bow look more like a blurred 11 than they do a blurred 08 (Vendetta).

Why does the inscription on the photo say Garden Island 1965 when you say you took the photo in 1970. Also the historical evidence would indicate that it is not 1965, position of side number is a clue.
