I am restoring a Paxman V12yha to tour the vintage shows with. These engines were fitted as main engines on some tugs & ocean research vessels. They were also used as gensets on Rothesay class frigates, some shore instalations & numerous other duties.
If anyone has any information, advice or simply wants to share a tale or two, i would be very interested to hear from you.
The thread i have started is entitled Rothesay class frigates.
Please feel free tp contribute.
Many thanks,
Merv!

Hi, I served on HMS Hydra that was powered by Paxmans I think they were 12 ylc,s . The big difference between them and a standard diesel is that you can't pull the piston out the top because of the fork and blade big end arrangement. Because of my experience with these engines when I left the RN I was able to walk into a job on a North sea oil rig that had the same engines. PS you have to pull the piston out through the crank case door. Regards John
