Hello everyone,

Can anyone shed any light on the above named company?
I am at present refurbishing a model of an ocean liner come troopship: SS Strathallan. It is on loan to a local exhibition from Dartmouth Museum. However I can find no info on the firm that built the model and nor does Dartmouth have any knowledge of them either.
Does anyone on this forum know anything? All suggestions gratefully received.

Kind regards
Alan

There is a place called Model Zone in the centre of Portsmouth who have been helpful to me in the past. There contact details are:

Phone: 02392 820071; Email: portsmouth@modelzone.co.uk

They suggest contacting them before visiting. I got this info from Google.
Hope this helps.

Alan, Tudor Model Shipyard suggests square-riggers from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Unless of course the owner rejoices in the name of Tudor.

I'm going down the boat club tonight and will ask around the membership if they know anything. Cannot promise anything as, amongst an average of twenty members, the total IQ is probably around 60.:D

Joking .........honest.:D

The Tudor Model Shipyard is unknown to me. In the thirties the pre-eminent suppliers of models for display in shipping company offices were Bassett Lowke.
As regards restoration, since you have the Falmouth model, which looks as if it is professionally made, this may not be of much help, but FWIW there is a builder's model of sister-ship Stratheden in the Dock Museum at Barrow in Furness.

To date I have followed a number of lines of enquiries but regrettably have had no luck. I did contact Barrows Dock Museum twice but they dont have either Strathallan or Stratheden models and suggested that they may have been shipbuilders models. :(
Interestingly; Whalecatchers second picture shows the very model that I have been working on so I thought I would post a more uptodate view of the same model.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

Kind regards
Alan
