My father, Desmond Bernard Hull, was a Royal Marine who served on board HMS Cleopatra during WWII. Not sure of the years of his service but I suspect it was 1941 to 1944/45. I am seeking pictures of his ship as well crew lists from that time period to add to my family history records.

Does anyone have any that they can share with me? After the war he married and emigrated to Canada in the 1950's where he joined the Canadian Army. He retired after serving here for 22 years and past away in July 1987 due to an aneurism of his aorta. I too served in the Canadian Army Signal Corps for 22 years and 2 years with the Communications Reserves and retired from the Canadian military in 1995.

Anyone that can share those can reach me at the following email address:
shull895@telus.net.

Appreciations sent to all in advance.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any information on where I could locate a crew list of the HMS Cleopatra in WW2.
My grandfather was a member of the crew and was called Raymond Ackroyd Harris. Our family know very little about him and would greatly appreciate any feedback anyone may have, via email,
thank you

Or... the "oh no, Cissy's been researching again" Thread.....

Ok.. so, still struggling and getting a head ache over Great Grandfather's Naval Records... getting there slowly, Identifying the Ships and learning their history... today I came across HMS Cleopatra. Did the usual search on Google (as ya do)...and amongst the reams of wrong results, up popped an American website, selling a book written by William Wait, Staff Surgeon about the "Three Year Cruise" on Cleopatra 1892 - 1895...the exact dates that dear old Great Granddaddy was on board! Now I am not about to stump up the $500 they want for the book...and was determined to learn more myself... but three hours later and almost gone blind from squinting at the screen..I have to report that there is nothing to report that I can find!

So, if any of you can shed any light or a new pair of specs, I would be eternally grateful!

Hi Cissy. I'm not sure how much you know regarding HMS Cleopatra or if it is the "Three Year Cruise" bit ,you are interested in. I will include a bit on Cleopatra and you can disregard it if not pertinent.
She was a Comus class steel corvette. In around 1896 she was on station in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia waters protecting the fisheries, under the command of Captain A.G Curzon-Howe.I am sure that her cruising remit in the years previous was South to North America and your great grandad probably sailed in that theatre of operations. This snippet will I hope kick start things

I see said the blind man. What about recruits if they're Army. I don't think they are going to like being a leading seaman.Never mind, as you said it's just a bit of fun LOLOLOL

Thankyou Tomsam... I am interested in both, yet there seems to be little or no information out there regarding the 'cruise'. I'll keep searching though.

Well Sailor, remember we were all young once. I wish I had half the hair I had when this pic. was taken. For some unknown reason it seems to be disappearing now.

Take heart Stan. As I understand it, baldness and virility seem to be connected!

Thankyou Draconis...every little bit helps. I have two Great Grandfathers, a Great Uncle and a Grandfather, whose careers I am piecing together bit by bit, and enjoying every minute of it as well as learning so much along the way. My friends all make 'seafaring' jokes now.... hmmm maybe I am being a bit obsessive!

Hi all.

First post, trying to put together a file for my grandfather.

He served during WW2 and from what information I have he went into Malta on the HMS Royalist, and left on the HMS Cleopatra.

Have found a bit of information on service history of the two ships, and some photo's of them, but would really like some more detailed personnel information.

Something like service records or exact dates when the ships went into and left Malta, and what would be really nice is a few clear crew photographs.

Ive only just started my research a couple of days ago and have never undertaken anything like this before so any help on where to start looking would be greatly appreciated :)

PS - have done a search of this site and retrieved some info already, thanks for that to the original posters.
