hi every one ,please note i left the "S"off my name ,[she was my last proper sea going ship i was on.
I have been given the site ,by one of my mates off another site "SHIPMATESAHOY" of which i am a member of, and after reading the many forums and threads ,i can see it rekindles many good times [and bad ] i had in pusser.
The wife is into the family tree tracking down many of the relatives ,she came from LIVERPOOL ,so i am doing any naval bits she comes across,.
.
I only did 10 years in the navy ,from training i did 7 years sea time ,mostly all in one go,which left 3 years shore ,with cushy numbers,[the cherry on the cake was at HMS ROOKE ,when i spent just over a year on HMS arlingham, she was guard boat for Gib ,and day running ,i just could not wish for such a great time ,to end my career.]
I better stop here ,or you will all be bored out of your "micks" me rattling along......so till " call the hands ",ill " pipe down "

Don't get him started after a couple of pints. Put the brakes on early. Ask him about Saltburn.

After a chat with a fellow member ,he asked if i could put this on the forum ..
Not having a clue where to post , best put it here....

It is a bit from mi book i did for my granddad children ....[non commercial ]

Just a tit bit of it ......

We had done heaps of polishing and washing down in the mess where we lived in, as each week; we had “captain’s rounds”, which was another important part of naval life. And keeping my locker smart and tidy.
I got the hang of using the “buffing machine “off to perfection, of which I liked to use the most ,leaving the rest of my mess mates to move the beds and lockers for me .
After another 6 weeks, after basic training, it was straight down to being a seaman; we lost a few of our mates as they had been drafted to other training bases, as they belonged to other branches like “R.O, s and the MEM branch.

I bet that rings a bell

Not every story has a happy ending .....

Between this cruise down the islands, we anchored off Antigua one weekend, so the ships company could have a banyan on the beach. Before we were allowed ashore the officer of the day told us that we must get off the sea boat by stepping off the boat, but we had one fool who didn’t do as he was told, and decided to take a dive ,The water was so clear ,that it was hard to make out how deep it was ,in doing so he injured his spine .The helicopter was lunched and ,picked him up from the beach .And was taken to one of the Virgin Islands which had a hospital ,but unfortunately he died .

On H.M.S MOHAWK.
