I am trying to find out the name of the Soviet Kotlin Class Destroyer involved in the collision with Ark Royal in 1970. The incident is well documented having become an international incident; even a thread about the Ark incident and similar incidents with AGI's on WNS.

I have not been able to establish any reference to the name of the Soviet Destroyer involved with the Ark collision. I have a few photos taken at the time and have been shown others from other members of Arks ships company who where onboard at the time; but to no avail.

I understand 27 ships of the class were completed with varying modifications and succeded by the Kildin Class Destroyer.

Any one any ideas?

I believe this is the ship: Kotlin 365 'Bravyy' or Brave
The photos are from the collection of the late Billy Brettle, who was the SAR diver on the Ark Royal at the time.
In the third photo, he is in the water with the liferaft from the Russian ship, which has a dog inside. He has his divers knife in his hand, just in case.

I used to examine, test and pack the 25 man NILE liferafts, never had to use one for real though. Kevin.

Apparently BRAVVY had pennant N° 365 in 1970, so it does seem to be the right one. In any case it is one of the projet 56A models eqipped with an SA N 1 launcher with a provision for 16 missiles in the magazine. The launcher is a ZIF 101 double launcher. The missile had a range of up to 15 klicks at altitudes up to 10 000 meters.
BRAVVY was the first vessel of the class to be fitted out with the SA N 1.
