From AFP (Agence France Presse)-DefenseNews, Dec.20th 2011-dsl
Aboard INS "Subhadra" Dec 20th:
Indian President Pratibha Patel stressed the need to improve maritime security as offshore oil and gas exploration surges ahead.
Conducting only the 10th Presidential Fleet Review since the 1947 Independence the President said "safeguarding India's coastline and waters was a major requirement for the social and economic well-being of our country"
The 77 year old President who is also Supreme Commander of India's armed forces took the salute from 81 ships anchored within sight of Mumbai's landmark "Gateway of India" monument and also witnessed a ceremonial flypast of jet fighters and helicopters.

To think that we give International Aid to "poor"India to the tune of £3billion is a complete nonsense, in the light of all this naval "wealth" to protect their oil and gas resources; but "to them that hath-----:rolleyes::rolleyes::mad:

Definition of foreign aid,
" A transfer of money from poor people in rich countries,
To rich people in poor countries."

I have been on about the same question for quite some time now...A Nation that 'can't feed or clothe' itself adequately and receives billions in Foreign Aide Programs from Countries suffering from a 'Guilt Complex' is beyond me..We in OZ have peple sleeping on the street,..Pensioners who cannot afford 'three square meals' a day and what does our glorious Govmt do?...Give millions to countries that spend billions on arming themselves to the teeth!!....I will bet on receiving the 'Racial Card' response as guaranteed... .. Not from me Brian. As a paid up wishy washy liberal (definately with a small "l" these days, I think Clegg is a Conservative plant) I have long thought that aid to India merely perpetuates arms purchases from Russia & a nuclear arms programme.

Maybe I'll be admonished-but could'nt resist putting this item under this
heading- ie The Indian Navy seems to need a "Review" of some of it's staff:
Four Indian Navy officers have been summoned by the Navy Board to appear on charges of possessing and leaking classified information on their personal
computers, sharing data with several networks such as "Facebook", enabling Foreign, including unfriendly access. No date was given for the hearing nor likely sentence if guilt is proven.

It's either with foundation ie they have been leaking classified information or without ie making fairly innocuous posts (date sharing) on Facebook and as such are "letting the side down" Please keep us informed.:D:D:D:D

Then let me join you Brian. On BBC Questiontime this week we had the official enlightenment from the Overseas Development Minister who said that the money we give is well spent because it goes to feeding, clothing and educating the masses of children in India who are not helped by their own government. It mattered not that they had a Nuclear Programme, a huge Fleet and defence budget including buying their hardware from sources other than the UK, and of course their Space Programme. He assured us that we would reap the benefits one day and you can imagine the reaction he got when this country is trying to keep its head above water and his cronies give away our own people's future ........ [all this to a country which boasts more billionaires than we who are prepared to, along with their government, ignore the plight of their own poor and yet accept our charity and more fools our politicians for giving it when we have our own problems] .....in the words of Andy Capp --"Daft I calls it".

Todays Sunday Telegraph reports that India's Finance Minister Prahab Mukherjee and some others earlier tried to refuse/terminate Britain's aid gift of
cash, saying it was "Peanuts" and "not required". He relented after Britain
":begged India to keep taking the money" !!!
