It is fitting that as we approach the 70th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that interest and submissions has increased.

A number of threads on this topic have accumulated over the last 4 years, giving rise to a degree of duplication. The opportunity has therefore been taken to consolidate and re-arrange these existing threads in an attempt to provide a logical classification of the various aspects of this complex topic. Threads now available are as follows:

Pearl Harbor: The Attack (http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1265&highlight=pearl+harbor)
Pearl Harbor: Aftermath & Salvage (http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11623&highlight=pearl+harbor)
Pearl Harbor: Aircraft (http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11622&highlight=pearl+harbor)
Pearl Harbor: The Japanese Battle Fleet (http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1116&highlight=pearl+harbor)
Pearl Harbor: The Books (http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11625&highlight=pearl+harbor)
Pearl Harbor: The Films (http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11626&highlight=pearl+harbor)
Pearl Harbor: The People (http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11655)

Naturally, some threads may have inevitably lost a little continuity, and thread reference numbers could now be inconsistent, but an attempt has been made to minimise this by copying and splitting some posts wherever practicable. There may also be other new threads necessary for other aspects of this topic, such as Japanese Aircraft for instance.

The Moderating Team would be grateful if any obvious errors identified, could be notified - please PM myself or any other member of the Team, and we will endeavour to rectify wherever possible.

To clear up one point, that seems to keep cropping up; the correct spelling used for, an in, these threads is Pearl HARBOR, and not HARBOUR, as pointed out by one of our members to me recently. Pearl Harbor is a proper noun (which always retain their original spelling), and there is no argument around 'English' or 'American' usage. It is perfect acceptable to say "across the harbour from Pearl Harbor".

Lastly, in carrying out this exercise, it was evident that many links to youtube, and other sources of information had become 'broken' necessitating the removal of some posts. This is one of the major problems with using links in solitude, without any explanation or précis of the content. Members are therefore asked to limit the use of external web links, not just in these new threads, but in general. They can, in the limit, completely destroy a thread when they fail, especially when a thread simply starts with a link without any explanation, elaboration, opinion, or other comment of any sort. It is becoming increasingly a problem, and all members are urged to bear in mind this plea. I am sure we all want the Forum to be maintained as a source of information for the future, and not just end up being proliferated by a sea of little red crosses ...!!

There are other very good reasons for curtailing the use of external internet links, and further guidance and tips in the their use is currently being discussed and agreed by the Moderating Team. A Guidance Thread will be posted in due course.

Thanks in advance to everyone for helping in this matter.
