Hi All
I'm after some assistance if anyone can help me please?
I obtained the attached naval cap tally believing it to be IJN, however on the reverse was a note implying that it might be Chinese with the name
chung hue ming kuo hai ging - (as far as I can make out as the writing is somewhat faded ) . RN tallies are my area but I couldn't turn down the opportunity to pick up this 'odd ball' tally so I'm at a complete loss. I've tried the internet without any success
can anyone possibly advise which is correct and possibly what ship / shore establishment it relates to please?
many thanks
Dave

Hi Guys
Took your advice and tried my local takeaway for a translation. unfortunately when I checked Chinese naval records I couldn't find a ship ever being called
'egg fried rice' ..........last time I ever go to that takeaway!
At first it was so sweet to get a translation but now I just feel so sour
cheers

I'd go to Swindon College, or either the Bath University campus at Corsham Court or the Oxford campus in Swindon (or even Oxford itself) and speak to an instructor in their foreign languages department.

Here's the characters of a WW2 IJN tally. It reads R to L.

Dave: I just saw this post. Living in Hawaii, I have several Japanese friends who may be able to help. Most don't know the Japanese ideographs that well, but probably know someone of the older generation who does. If I get a response, I will of course post it here.

Dave:
According to my friend's husband, the cap tally is in Chinese ideographs and identifies the Republic of Taiwan Navy. (Chinese and Japanese ideographs are often very close or identical to each other.)
Hope this helps.

Don,
That confirmation is a relief I must say.... to see why, my post #3 refers:)

Harry: I was just glad there was someone who could check it out! Of course, the tally must therefore be post-1949.
Dave: You've now gotten "the word!" :)
