View Full Version : Is this SMS Regensburg?
I'm researching this Pathe clip:
http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=77006
The second half of the clip has a three-funnel cruiser that I think is one of the two German Graudenz class - probably Regensburg. That ship was ceded to the French in 1920, becoming Strasbourg. The other ship, Graudenz, went to Italy in 1921 and became Ancona.
Can anyone confirm that the ship is one of the two Graudenz class - or offer an alternate identification?
Thanks
Tony

It looks like Regensburg to me. Regensburg had 2 above water torpedo tubes per side, Graudenz onlz one a side. Do you think 2?
Wolfgang
Thanks for that. I can't distinguish the number of tubes, but instinct suggests it is Regensburg and not Graudenz. But I could be wrong.
It would be helpful to know what the movements of both ships were immediately after the war, because that might reveal when either ship would have been in company with a British capital ship. (I'm assuming there is a linkage between the two halves of the clip.) Unfortunately I cant make out any ensign on the cruiser ...
I'm wondering if this shot was late 1918, before the Americans left the European theatre.
Kind regards

More than welcome...ENJOY! DFO :D
I have confirmed it is SMS Regensburg, in Kiel in about Nov 1918. According to the info in the WPA record below, Regensburg transported the pilot who took HMS Hercules (with Allied Naval Armistice Commission) through the minefields outside Kiel.

Regensburg also appears late in this Pathe clip:
