My friend is trying to find some information on her great uncles Imperial service medal. I'm not sure when it was awarded, but he worked for the post office for a number of years. The name on the medal is William Stephenson. I was wondering if anyone knew how we could find out a bit more about it. Kevin.
The London Gazette will tell you roughly when his ISM was awarded. It would also tell you where he was a postman. I am afraid you won't get a lot more information that easily.
Do you know his full name as that will make finding the LG entry easier - also what head is on the ISM (George V, GVI or EIIR) - all that will help narrow the search.
Just had a very quick search and found this entry:
http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/45877/supplements/575
for a William Stephenson who was a Postal and Telegraphy Officer in Edinburgh - Jan 1973.
That would be on a medal with an Elizabeth II head and the inscription Dei Gratia Regina F.D.

Thanks for your reply Odin, I've sent you a PM. Kevin.
This is probably the one you want based on your PM
General Post Office - Stephenson William, Assistant Supervisor, Staines October 1962
http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/42817/supplements/8352
Again this will be an Elizabeth II Head with the inscription Dei Gratia Regina F.D.

Thanks for your help Odin, you got it spot on. He lived in Egham and worked in Staines.
