10/24/11:

The event of the day in current news appears to have been the abandonment of the position of Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford this day. Pointed threats from the current Syrian government appear to have been the motivation. This afternoon the announcement that the Syrian government is, in turn, removing its diplomatic connection with the United States from Washington, D.C.

These events never bode well. What actions are taken here by surrounding national entities will decide what measure of conflict we are due to experience. It's been my sense that the so-called "Arab Spring" would wind into forming an Islamic multi-national concession. Perhaps something akin will form of the current pressures. Regards
