Hi fellas!

I think I must have had one of Terry Wogan's "Senior Moments"... because during my time on the Forum, with all its Naval wakes ( as in wake of a ship!). I have omitted to mention an excellent site that is definitely worth a visit especially if an Aussie sailor or ex-sailor! the site is

http://www.gunplot.net

which has been set up by a real dinky di Aussie CPO. If you've not visited or heard about it have a look and see what you think!

Thanks Ian. I came across it just this week myself whilst looking for stuff.

What a good site! He's put so much into it! Amazing. There's enough there to keep one busy for weeks.

Yes it's a good read and journey. I've been a member for a couple of years now... I think he also has a lot of serving members of all ranks as well as ex's.

Such a shame however that all that effort now languishes, with no updates or activity for some time.
A growing trend i fear.
Most unfortunate, but still educational and interesting.

This site has been relocated to www.gunplot.net/forums.

This was done some months ago and you will have to reregister.

Interesting to look at some of these other forums to draw comparisions with our own WNSF.

This particular site has a restricted members area, don't know how that works though. It also states that anyone who doesn't log again within 30 days of registering will be deleted.

I assume the forum owner has set these restrictions for a reason.

Interesting to note though that the most users online to date is a mere 24 people, including members and guests.

Looking at the site as a guest, there's nothing that sort of entices you in so to speak.

Perhaps if some of our members from Oz are members of that forum too they may be able to eloborate on the restrictions and the site in general.

The member restriction of GUNPLOT is to limit the number of military imposters who like to get on and spruk s*** and just distupt the site as much as they can. (There are some warped people out there.) This mode of entry to the site enables the owner/manager to sort out the ficiticious from the ex-military members. I have been a member since 2002 and find it an excellent source of information.

.........an excellent source of information.

Although I have not used the site for some years I could not agree more. The main site is very good. Also a smart smart move for the Forum.

BTW - bbragg2; any relation to Ray Bragg?

Mike, No just a moniker that I use. But I did serve with him years ago.

Thanks for the info regarding the site, of course all forums are subject to 'Imposters' as you say, including this one. Fortunately we have a pretty good programme that sifts out the majority of those and our forum leader KC oversees all the registration requests.

Here at WNSF we see the forum as a future reference and not just for the present members so we don't place restrictions on members to keep logging in, a quick look at the 'who's online' will reveal lots of our members who visit regularly but don't actually participate actively, something that some members agree with and others don't. Perhaps in time they will muster up the courage to start posting.

Thanks again for your input, I'm sure some of our members may be tempted to take a look for themselves.

Alan
