I have mentioned before that the first naval history type book I ever read was "Brave Deeds of American Sailors" which I checked out of the Nashville, Tennessee Public Library in 1943 when I was about 7. (My mother had taught in a one-room school and I went with her, and could read anything before I started school.)
This book has stories from the revolution to the Spanish-American war. It is more of a story book based on actual history, than a real history book.
I just found a downloadable or read online copy at this URL:

I am sure many of you would enjoy it. I know I am going to read it again! Be warned, this book is written from a very American perspective, and includes two wars with Great Britain!
I just learned that one of my former students is now librarian in Nashville, and that reminded me to look for this book on line.
