I thought I would start off this quiz just for fun. The ladies might enjoy it too.
Who is this lady?
The one who gets the question puts up the next one.

OK

Who's this then?

We'll make it quick. I'll give the answer tonight. British tonight that is!

VIV....Are you referring to Mia Farrow?

The Sailor
17-02-2008, 08:20
I showed this to my wife and she thinks it's a bloke. She could be right. I dunno.

Sorrry Sailor might be inclined to agree with her indoors there:eek:

John Brown

If you pair think this is a bloke then you need to get out more:confused:

The Sailor
17-02-2008, 09:00
I knew I'd cop that. I am blaming my wife for this.
I think it's Ava Gardner

John Brown
17-02-2008, 21:16
Well Sailor

You're the only one to have a go at this.

It's the actress Valerie Leon who appeared in two 'Bond' films as well as comedies and Horrors. She is probably best known for her appearance in a Hi Karate aftershave TV advert. I doubt it was her acting ability she was hired for but rather her figure.

Time for one of the girls to have a go now......

John

The Sailor
17-02-2008, 21:43
Too hard. Never heard of her John. Go for it girls.

OK, still got this one running and no one got it.
It is Bess Armstrong.
The pic was from the movie with Tom Sellick called "A High Road to China".

John Brown
18-02-2008, 21:42
As the winner, I'll post one for the ladies:

Who is this body builder and actor from the 50's and 60's?

The Sailor
18-02-2008, 21:47
Guess it is still open to anyone
Is it Johnny Weissmuller who played in the Tarzan movies?

BB60
19-02-2008, 02:05
Weissmuller made his movies in the 1930s.

Is it Lex Barker?

John Brown
19-02-2008, 07:31
No winners yet!

I'll post the answer this evening if no one gets it in the meantime.

Mein Gott JB - You don`t make them very easy do you?
Mr Steve Reeves I believe?

John Brown
19-02-2008, 12:07
Well done Terry.

Yes it is Steve Reeves, star of such films as 'Hercules', Hercules Unchained' and 'The Last Days of Pompeii' Interestingly, he turned down several parts that subsequently made other actors famous. James Bond in 'Dr No' and the Man with No Name in 'A Fistful Of dollars' to name a couple.

The Sailor
19-02-2008, 23:42
Your turn Terry. Hope it is another lady this time.

TheDigger
20-02-2008, 10:07
How about Leigh Taylor Young?

astraltrader
20-02-2008, 10:29
:cool:OK people. Apologies for the delay. Being sometimes slow on the uptake I failed to realise that the baton would now fall to me. Anyway - this photo is dead easy to identify - or would have been had I not posted an image of what she looks like today - rather than the big 1960`s-80`s star she undoubtedly was...

Who is/was she ??

It probably might help if I actually included the image! [what a plonker].

astraltrader
20-02-2008, 10:33
Actually looking at it in the cold light of day - I still think it is probably too easy...

Which is why when you have correctly guessed that one you have to solve this one of a british 70`s-80`s star... [I loved her when I was younger!]..

The Sailor
20-02-2008, 11:15
Quit saying it's dead easy Terry, it is showing me up. I don't know either of them.
Think the top one is Hillary Clinton.

astraltrader
20-02-2008, 12:45
Sorry Sailor it is most certainly not Mrs Clinton!
I find it surprising no-one has got this yet - still early days!
The first lady in question is a [No - not THE first Lady!] famous film star of quite a few films throughout the 60`s/70`s/80`s -as well as starring in a famous TV drama series in the 60`s - was definitely a pin-up of her day.
Look closely at her face and then try and imagine her 25 years earlier!

The second was a regular on British TV during the same period - I always saw her as a sort of British Susan George [like I said I thought I was in love with her when I was about 17!]

Anyway that is enough clues for now. If no-one has cracked this by tommorow evening I will start giving out some initials.

I am surprised JB hasn`t come up with some suggestions by now...

BB60
20-02-2008, 14:05

Good try Viv - but no. More like a contemporary of Ms Andress...

The Sailor
20-02-2008, 21:25
OK, that's it. The black and white is Virginia McKenna ...
She acted in the movie "Carve her name with Pride".

Dunno who the old blond is.

John Brown
20-02-2008, 21:38
Terry

Your wish is my command!

The first is Alexandra Bastedo, one of the stars of 'The Champions'.

The other, I think, is Susan Penhaligan of 'Poldark' fame.

By the way, Susan George IS British and Married to Simon McCorkindale one of the stars of the film 'The Riddle of The Sands'

Regards......John

astraltrader
20-02-2008, 22:09
Sorry Graeme - Mr JB wins with a perfect 10/10!
I thought someone would guess Ms Bastedo - but I am well impressed that he got Ms Penhaligan as the photo IMO does not look at all like her...
Well done that man! Its your turn again - another bit of totty??

John Brown
21-02-2008, 07:10

It was the last clue that did it my friend.
Ms Suzy Parker...

If memory serves me correctly she starred alongside her future husband, Brad Dillman in the film Circle of Deception which, I thought, was quite a good film and is rarely shown at all nowadays. A very good "twist" at the end ofthe WW2 based movie.

Viv

John Brown
22-02-2008, 08:00
Sorry Viv

You were warmer with the 'Playboy' theory although it involves a much 'classier' publication.

Glamour model Vivien Neves was the first women to appear nude in 'The Times'. (A very tasteful pose I should add). I once had the pleasure of meeting her briefly and found her to be a lovely lady.

Go on then Viv let's have another one from you!

astraltrader
22-02-2008, 10:57
Strewth JB - I thought I had it cracked then! I really didn`t realise that Vivian Neves had MS or had passed away. Shame.

The Sailor
26-02-2008, 07:57
OK John Brown,we all give up.
Time to tell us who it is and do another one.

The Sailor
29-02-2008, 20:32
Who is this and what major war film was she in?

John Brown
01-03-2008, 23:55
Sorry Sailor

There must be some misunderstanding! I gave the answer in my last post 'Vivien Neves' and then invited our Viv to provide the next quiz.

However, the answer to your quiz is....Mary Ure and the film is 'Where Eagles Dare'

regards....John

The Sailor
02-03-2008, 00:21
I knew that John, but as a week had gone by and nothing had happened, I thought I'd put another one up to keep it going. Mine was an easy one and you are right. It is Mary Ure.

astraltrader
02-03-2008, 00:30
I did not realise that the "who is this" Quiz had restarted after such a long gap! Is it correct to assume that it is now down to JB to launch the next one??

The Sailor
02-03-2008, 00:46
Yep, John is supposed to be next Terry, but I think we should say that if it isn't taken up within a day, that somebody else can have a shot.

John Brown
02-03-2008, 18:46
OK

Here's an easy one....

John

Who is this then?

John Brown
03-03-2008, 07:00

herakles
03-03-2008, 07:03

No, he is famous here for the hat he is wearing.

He was not in the movies, TV or stage. Was that a requirement?

BB60
05-03-2008, 22:59
Okay, seeing as how I am the only septic in the house, I guess I need to give hints to this well-known (in the States, at least) person. He was the "Ursa Major" in the US college football world and is easily recognized by his distinctive hat that is still worn present day by those who remember the legacy he created. The picture doesn't show it very well, but that is a houndstooth pattern on the hat. He's been dead for 25 years.

I hope this helps y'all.

Oh yeah, btw, what you call football, we call soccer. The football I am speaking of has a different ball and the players wear equipment sorta like hockey players.

herakles
06-03-2008, 03:48
"the players wear equipment sorta like hockey players."

Hockey players wear shin guards. Only! In your game Jeff it looks like they've come prepared for battle with Darth Vader.

Now, in the real game of football, no protective gear is worn at all. The real game? Aussie Rules!!!! And the new season is about to start!!!

BB60
06-03-2008, 11:24
The hockey I'm talking about wears this and they play it on ice:
http://mba.tuck.dartmouth.edu/pages/clubs/mens-hockey/images/equipm2.jpg

Our football had to start wearing pads because they were playing so hard, they were actually killing each other. I used to watch Aussie rules football when it was broadcast here.

I'll bet if you Google "houndstooth hat" you can figure this one out and my "Ursa Major" clue will make sense.

General Sir Arthur William Currie - commanded the Canadian Expeditionary Force.

Harley
22-03-2008, 09:06
You are of course right, sir. Unlike your average colonial general, Currie got ridiculous short shrift after WWI. General Byng was just more popular. And then the Canadian government allowed his name to get sullied by a bunch of politicians, very sad.

Over to you Herk.

Well Harley, I like to think the man was a scapegoat. I can't see that his actions were at fault. The break-through was a disaster and not of is making.

I wonder if it's more a question of "give a dog a bad name ... ..."
