View Full Version : Log Out: Why Does This Require Confirmation?

When I hit the Log Out button a pop-up window appears asking "Are you sure you want to log out?". This seems an unnecessary hurdle, since it's a simple matter to log in again if need be.

Does anyone else find log out confirmation annoying? Can it be disabled?

linux- you can use the log out button for logging out AND logging in-most probably ignore the "are you sure" bit-I always log in but never out; and that is probably why the button never shows "Log in".Forget about it.

It's a safety device for the click-clumsy. If you hit log out by accident then it is better to have the "are you sure" screen in place than it is to have to log in again. I know I have appreciated such screens in the past - "Are you sure you want to format the hard disk?". Most members don't log out anyway.

Yes, I understand it's a safety device. But the consequences of hitting "OK" by mistake are trivial; just log in again. It's not the same as formatting a hard disk or sending an electronic payment, where the consequences of making a mistake can be irrevocable and expensive.

Most sites let you log out without any fuss. The few that don't stand out as annoying!

Can't be that annoying as no-one else has mentioned this, probably because they don't logout anyway as KC suggested. Seems strange also that you've only just realised this annoyance since you've been a member since Nov.2007:confused:

AS KC has mentioned, most members do not log out ... I don't ... I find it more "annoying" to have to keep logging back in. Stayng looged in doesn't present any problems, security or otherwise.

Not on my bank or any other online payment site .They always ask if you sure you want to do what you are doing. Also banks and the like log you out automaticaly as soon as you close the page.So you always have to log in again,But i always stay logged in on forums one or two i use log me out after a few visits even when i elect to stay logged in its just how they are programmed :)
