View Full Version : France & Germany Bar
My father was awared the France and Germany bar with his WW2 medals which Royal Navy personel and does anyone know if or how I can find out why this bar was issued to my father?
This was a clasp to be awarded for personnel who had already been awarded the Atlantic Star and subsequently qualified for the award of the France and Germany Star only the first awarded would be worn but with a bar for the other.
Atlantic Star
France and Germany Bar
Awarded to those who subsequently became entitled to the France and Germany Star.

Hi homerun.
Just to add to what Blaydon said. The max number of WW2 Stars anyone could get was 5. Over this number and the award was recognised with a Bar where the rules permitted. A max RN group might look like this:
1. 1939-1945 Star
2. Atlantic Star with F&G Clasp
3. Africa Star
4. Burma Star with Pacific Clasp
5. Italy Star
5. War Medal
If you don't already have it I'd advise you to apply to the MOD for your dad's service file.

Thanks for the reply, I have a full list of my fathers medals. He was awareded the Atlantic Star amounst others. As far as the France and Germany claps goes, the only time I can see from his record that he would have been anywhere near these countries was at the time of the Normany Landis on D-Day. Dow you know what circumstances would have lead to him being awared the clasp?
