With dozens of confirmed victories at the end of WW1, the great Austro-Hungarian ace, Godwin von Brumowski was a formidable opponent, his red Oeffag-built Albatros D.III 153.45 of Flik 41J notorious in the skies above the Piave River on the Italian Front. When flying with his fellow ace, friend and wingman, Frank Linke-Crawford, they formed a deadly partnership, the two of them frequently sharing victories as they tore through their enemies' air forces, downing fighters, bombers and balloons alike. Brumowski's confirmed total at the war's end was 35, with many more 'probables', whilst Linke-Crawford was to claim a total of 27. They are depicted here in their distinctive aircraft, carrying out a low-level patrol late in the afternoon in the Dolomites in December 1917, just weeks before Linke-Crawford left the squadron to take up his appointment as Commanding Officer of Flik 60. It is popularly believed that the falcons painted on the sides of his aircraft led to Linke-Crawford later acquiring the title '<i>The Falcone of Feltre</i>'.

MK1 Hurricanes of No. 601 Squadron refueled and rearmed, climb to rejoin the battle during the summer of 1940. As the great air battle rages high above, life goes in the countryside as a Southern Railway train pulls out of a local village station, capturing the resilient mood of the people.

Released on the 65th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain a new limited edition to commemorate Churchills famous few. Stalwart of the Battle of Britain, the Hawker Hurricane equipped the majority of the RAF squadrons that defended Britain during that epic and decisive air battle in the summer of 1940. At the forefront of the air fighting over the southern counties of England, the young Hurricane pilots of 501 Squadron covered themselves in glory. Nicolas Trudgians painting sets the scene: a victim of yesterdays aerial conflicts, a crashlanded German Ju88 of KG30 lies on the edge of a Sussex field; the attention of two members of the local Home Guard is drawn to the Hurricanes of 501 Squadron as the fighters race back at low-level to Gravesend for fuel and ammunition. Within minutes they will scramble aloft again to rejoin the fray. <br><br><b>Published 2005.</b>

D for Donald of 270 squadron, Royal Air Force, out of Freetown, West Africa operating in the Atlantic Ocean. It was during routine operation search that D for Donald surprised U515 on the surface and immediately attacked the submarine. U515 in putting up stiff resistance blew a large hole in the hull of D for Donald and the magazine of the starboard side 0.5 twin Browning was hit and the subsequent shrapnel wounded both blister gunners. U515 escaped but was sunk by an American naval hunter group a year later. D for Donald limped back to base and managed to make the beach before it would sink completely.

As the air war raged over Berlin and other German cities, night-fighter units such as NJG100, the original Eastern front night fighter Geschwader, were redeployed nearer home in the final desperate defence of Germany. By late 1944 the Luftwaffes night fighting aircraft were being flown by experienced crews using sophisticated electronic equipment and, though fighting a losing battle, had become the scourge of the RAFs night raiders. A Junkers Ju88 G-6, piloted by major Paul Zorner, Gruppenkommandeur III./NJG100, based at Stubendorf, intercepts and badly damages a four-engined Lancaster of R.A.F. Bomber Command over Germany in late 1944. Shedding debris and trailing flames, there may just be time for the crew to bale out before the mightly bomber falls away into the dark abyss. With the aid of his FuG220 and upward firing Schrage Musik armament, Zorner has stalked his prey, and attacked from beneath unseen. The crew of this Lancaster didnt stand a chance, and with the moonlight briefly glinting on his aircraft, the accomplished Ju88 pilot slips away into the darkness of the night.

The remarkable Fairey Swordfish served with distinction throughout WWII, despite being nothing short of an anachronism. Its dated appearance belied a solid, workmanlike airframe that provided a stable platform from which to launch torpedoes against enemy shipping, the venerable 'Stringbag' sending a greater tonnage of Axis shipping to the bottom than any other allied aircraft in the Second World War. A Mk.II is shown taking off from HMS Ark Royal early in 1941.

Launched at Bucklers Hard in Hampshire in 1803, the frigate HMS Euryalus is probably best known for the small part she played at Trafalgar. She was one of four British frigates sent to observe the combined French and Spanish fleets as they left Cadiz for what would become the Battle of Trafalgar. Having shadowed the enemy through the night, Euryalus sped ahead to warn the British fleet, commanded by Admiral Lord Nelson. Too small to play a significant part in the battle itself, Euryalus stood off until the afternoon when she took the badly damaged Royal Sovereign in tow, Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood transferring his flag to the little frigate following the death of Nelson. By 1825, her career as a fighting ship was over and she was decommissioned to become a prison ship until the mid 1840s when she became a coal hulk. She soldiered on in number of other menial roles until 1860 when she was finally broken up.

First daylight on the 21st October, saw the Royal Navy fleets together at a distance of about 12 miles. The day looked fine, a heavy swell from the west gave warning of an approaching storm. As dawn broke HMS Victory, Nelsons flagship and the rest of the fleet could be found in a shapeless huddle, which soon resolved itself into two divisions. Thus the two fleets prepared themselves for the coming battle which commenced just before noon.
