HMS Leviathan Laid Down : 18th October 1943 Launched : 7th June 1945 Completed : Type : Aircraft Carrier Class : Majestic Builder : Swan Hunter Country : UK Pennants : 97, R97 Fate : Scrapped 27th May 1968. |
There was a popular misconception that she was launched with a twisted keel. However, that was not the case and, with the end of hostilities, there was no requirement for her to be completed. The others of the Majestic Class, with the exception of Magnificent, were sold to foreign navies. Her boilers being removed in 1968 to refit the damaged Veinticinco de Mayo (ex HMS Venerable, ex HMNLS Karel Doorman). |
