The distinctive black-fuselaged Albatross D.V of Jasta 12s commander taxis out for take off behind the similar machine of Leutnant d R Friedrich Hochstetter at Roucourt, late in 1917. Whilst all of Jasta 12s aircraft possessed black tails, many of them bore their pilots personalised insignia painted large on the fuselage sides. In the case of Hochstetter, it was a stacked shot emblem, whilst others sported castles, diagonal crosses or various geometric shapes. The origin of Schobingers light blue design is unknown, but may have been applied purely for recognition purposes. His final tally was eight victories, while Hochstetter scored just one.

Among those was Flt Lt G E 'Jamie' Jameson who, together with his navigator Norman Crookes, shot down no fewer than eight enemy aircraft in Mosquito NF.XIII MM466, this particular machine becoming the most successful Mosquito of WWII in terms of aerial victories. Jameson was to be credited with a final total of eleven victories before being repatriated home.

The Duke of Wellington while besieging the fort of Badajoz was told of an approaching French Amy of 23,000 troops under Marshal Nicholas Soult. The Duke of Wellington despatched General William Beresford with a force of 6,000 British troops and 24,000 Spanish troops who took up position overlooking the village of Albuera. The French attacked on the morning of the 16th May, Marshal Soult launched a feint attack on Beresfords left flank, while his main force attacked Beresfords right flank. The Spanish troops were overwhelmed by French musketry and a cavalry charge, at this point the British second division were brought from the other flank to stop the attack. It was here that the Middlesex regiment, 57th of Foot, lost a total of 423 men from their force of 575 and at this battle earned the nickname the Die-Hards. The allied forces were saved when the British and Portuguese reserves were brought forward and charged uphill against the French force. The French force were able to retire in good order but were unable to relieve the siege at Badajoz. This British victory had a heavy price as out of 6,000 troops only 1,500 were not wounded.

Johnny Herbert is shown in the Benetton B195. Herbert took a deserved victory at his home British Grand Prix at Silverstone, beating the Ferrari of Frenchman Jean Alesi into second place by more than 16 seconds, and ahead of fellow briton David Coulthard in the third placed Williams. He also claimed victory at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Along with Michael Schumachers nine victories, Herbert helped Benetton win their first constructors championship in the 1995 season. The Formula One Benetton B195 was designed by Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn for use in the 1995 Formula One season by Benetton. The B195 was almost identical to the B194 but for a change of engine supplier from Ford to Renault V10 engine, the same type the rival Williams team was using. With his first two Formula One wins under his belt in 1995, Johnny Herbert won just one more race, winning at the Nurburgring at the European Grand Prix in 1999, racing for Stewart Ford. He retired from Formula One in 2000.
