The Coureur was
ordered from Thornycroft to test out their new watertube boiler which gave
a very high power weight ratio. The Coureur class was very similar
to the Spanish Ariete and El Rayo which had been built for Spain.
This was the first French torpedo boat which had reasonable accommodation
for the crew. The Veloce and Grondeur were built by Mediterranee and
were built the same except for given heavier scantlings which reduced
their handling and seaworthy qualities.
Displacement:
117 tons. Speed: 23.5 knots. Armament: Two 14 inch
torpedo tubes, and two 47mm guns.
