| The following information was sent in by
"Stuart" - thanks for the contribution.
HMS Triumph (Colussus Class) was indeed converted into a Fleet Heavy
Repair Ship in 1964. She spent much of her time in that role moored on the
North Wall in Chatham Dockyard's No. 3 Basin. She was sold to a spanish
ship breakers and left Chatham shortly before the dockyard closed in 1984.
HMS Bulwark spent her final days in Portsmouth harbour. I remember she was
moored astern of HMS Tiger in 1982. I believe she was sold for scrap in
1983. HMS Hermes was coverted to an Anti-submarine Carrier and
fitted with a 'Ski-Jump' for Sea Harriers. She commissioned in that
role, I think in 1979. She was de-commissioned once the current Ark Royal
was completed and was sold to India in 1986 or 1987. I believe she still
serves in the Indian Navy, I think under the name 'Vikrant'. |

HMS TRIUMPH JOHN
I COWLING... John was a crewman aboard HMS Triumph which came to Australia
about the time of Queen Elizabeth's visit to Australia in 1954. We
developed a friendship during his short time in Australia but
unfortunately lost touch after this. If he is still alive I would like to
renew contact. Contact me, Keith Webb, at angelaspiers@better.net.au
