History of the Charger Class Destroyers HMS Charger,
HMS Dasher and HMS Hasty. These Yarrow Built
destroyer Torpedo Boats were enlarged versions of the Hornet class boats
built the previous year. Displacement: 255 tons, Speed: 27 knots.
Compliment: 53 Armament: One 12-pounder Gun. plus two torpedo
Tubes. They were initially fitted with Locomotive Boilers then Thornycroft
3,700-3,800 h.p Boilers and again in 1900-1901 fitted with new boilers. |

The third “DASHER” was a twin-screw
torpedo-boat destroyer, launched at Poplar in 1893.
She was of 255 tons, 3182 horse-power, and 27 knots speed. Her length, beam, and draught were 190ft., 18ft., and 5ft.
In 1912 this destroyer was sold at Chatham for £1630. |
