November 1943. The Redmill was torpedoed in the Atlantic on April 27th

HMS REDMILL
TOM FRASER.. My Uncle (Stoker 1st Class C/KX 117336 Tom
Fraser, my Dad’s brother), served on Captain Class Frigate HMS Redmill
as a Stoker (Engineer) from November 1943 until April 1945, after being
transferred from HMS Resolution when the latter was mothballed in summer
1943. During Autumn 1943 he was retraining to operate Diesel electric
engines at Eastbourne college. I recently discovered the collection of
88 well-written wartime letters he wrote to his family at home in
Burnley, Lancs. Many were written from the Redmill. He was killed on
April 27th 1945, exactly a month before his 25th birthday and 10 days
before the end of hostilities in Europe, when the Redmill was torpedoed
in the Atlantic. I aim to annotate the letters and publish them as a
book. If you have any memories of my uncle Tom, please get in touch.
