HMS Cossack.

Contributed by Denise Morris.

I am sure that others have already pointed out that HMS Cossack (L03) was a Tribal class destroyer, lost I think in the Med. A CO class destroyer was later built and named Cossack, fitted out a a Leader (Captain (D)). 4 flotillas of the CA,CH,CO and CR classes are listed on your site. The later Cossack spent nearly all of her time from about 1946/7 on the FES Station as leader of the 8th DF (later DS) and returned to the UK in1959. She served with distinction during the Korean unpleasantness.

Whilst on board the Constance he made a framed picture with my Dads photo as a centre piece wearing his hat with the H.M.S Constance head band, Unfortunately this is special to my family so, so what i will try to do is use my cam corder take a photo and with my daughters help send it to you by e.mail. I have also got several photographs of my Dads mates which i can`t identify but you may be able to find people who can, they have been taken many years ago from when my Dad entered the boys service. HMS CHIVALROUS.

GORDON WALKER. As a driver with 1st Royal Sussex in Akaba, Jordan, I took a party of sailors from HMS Chivalrous to Petra in Jordan in January 1950. We ran into heavy snow in the hills on the way home and were stuck there several days, sleeping in my truck. An airdrop of blankets, fuel and food was dropped to us - the only parachute that did not open had a container of rum -surprise surprise. Do any ex- Chivalrous lads remember this? The only name I have from this episode is P/O Bengree, which was one piece of paper retrieved from that time. I would be glad to here from anyone who was there with me at that time. Contact Gordon Walker at gordwalk@btinternet.com
