Bourrasque Class.  French destroyers of the Bourrasque Class.  Photos and history of the French destroyers of the Bourrasque Class, launched 1924 - 1925, including, Typhon, Simoun, Orage, Tramontane, Ouragan, Cyclone, Tempete, Mistral, Tornade, Bourrasque, Sirocco and Trombe.

Displacement: 1319 tons,   1800 tons full load.  Crew 138 ( 7 officers, 131 all other ranks) Speed: 33 Knots   Armament:  Four  130mm,,, One 75mm AA guns  Six 550mm torpedo tubes on two torpedo racks

 Scuttled 9th November 1942 to become block ship at Oran

Orage

30th August 1924

Sunk 23rd May 1940 by aerial Bombing of Boulogne
Tramontane

29th November 1924

 Beached 8th November 1942, off Oran after being damaged by gunfire form HMS Aurora
Ouragan

6th December 1924

 Sold and Broken up 7th March 1949
Cyclone

24th January 1925

 Scuttled 18th June 1940 after being torpedoed by German Torpedo Boat S24
Tempete

21st May 1925

Mistral

 Broken up February 1950
Tornade

Sunk 8th November 1942 of Oran by HMS Aurora and HMS Calpe

Sunk 30th May 1940 near Nieupport after being mined and finished off by German Shore batteries.,
Sirocco

3rd October 1925

Sunk 31st May 1940 after being torpedoed by German Torpedo Boats S23 and S26 during the Battle of Dunkirk
Trombe

29th December 1925

 

Typhon

Typhon, built by F. Ch de la Gironde. and launched  22ht May 1924 and completed 1928. During world war two, she was scuttled by her crew. after sinking the USS Hartland, the US sloop. when she engaged several ships at Oran.

Simoun

Simoun was built by  Penhoet and launched 3rd June 1924 and completed January 1926.  On February 23rd 1940. she rammed and sunk the German submarine U-54. Sold and broken up 17th February 1950

Ouragan

Ouragan was built by Ch. Navals Francais and launched 6th December 1924 and completed January 1927. On July 3rd 1940 she was in a British port and taken over by the Polish Navy and was crewed by a Polish crew, but ltaer she was handed back to the FNFL. She was re armed with British guns as ammunition for the French guns was in short supply.

Cyclone

Cyclone was built by F. Ch. de la Mediterranee and launched 24th January 1925 and completed 1927.  During the evacuation of Dunkirk she was torpedoed and damaged by German MTB S.24 and she was at Brest under repair, but to stop her falling into German hands. The Cyclone  was scuttled by her crew.  on June 18th 1940.

Tempetye was built by Dubigeon and launched  22nd February  1925 and completed July 1926.

Mistral

Tornade

Tornade built by Dyle et Bacalan and launched 13th March and completed 1928. During the Battle of Oran she was disabled and Sunk 8th November 1942  by HMS Aurora and HMS Calpe

Sirocco

Trombe

Trombe was built by F. Ch de la Gironde and launched 29th December 1925 and completed 1927. during World war two, she was scuttled at Toulon, but was towed to Italy and renamed FR.31, returned to France at Bizerte on 28th October 1943.  On April 16th 1945 she was badly damaged by a Italian MTB off Cannes.
