Beagle Class Destroyers.  Photos and history of the Beagle Class Destroyers.  Launched 1909 - 1910, the Beagle Class of destroyers included HMS Beagle, HMS Bulldog, HMS Foxhound, HMS Pincher, HMS Grasshopper, HMS Mosquito, HMS Scorpion, HMS Scourge, HMS Racoon, HMS Renard, HMS Wolverine, HMS Rattlesnake, HMS Nautilus, HMS Savage, HMS Basilisk and HMS Harpy.
HMS Beagle 16th October 1909 Sold for scrapping in November 1921.
HMS Bulldog 13th November 1909 Sold for scrapping in September 1920.
HMS Foxhound 11th December 1909 Sold for scrapping in November 1921.
HMS Pincher 15th March 1910 Wrecked on 24th July 1918.
HMS Grasshopper 23rd November 1909 Sold for scrapping in November 1921.
HMS Mosquito 27th January 1910 Sold for scrapping in August 1920.
HMS Scorpion 19th February 1910 Sold for scrapping in October 1921.
HMS Scourge 11th February 1910 Sold for scrapping in May 1921.
HMS Racoon 15th February 1910 Wrecked on 9th January 1918.
HMS Renard 30th November 1909 Sold for scrapping in August 1920.
HMS Wolverine 15th January 1910 Sank after colliding with another vessel on 12th December 1917.
HMS Rattlesnake 14th March 1910 Sold for scrapping in May 1921.
HMS Nautilus 30th March 1910 Renamed to Grampus on 16th December 1912 and eventually sold for scrapping in September 1920.
HMS Savage 10th March 1910 Sold for scrapping in May 1921.
HMS Basilisk 9th February 1910 Sold for scrapping in November 1921.
HMS Harpy 27th November 1909 Sold for scrapping in November 1921.

HMS Foxhound - Name History

The fifth “FOXHOUND” is a turbine torpedo-boat destroyer, launched at Clydebank in 1910.  She is of 950 tons, 12,500 horse-power, and 27 knots speed.  Her length, beam, and draught are 265., 28th., and 9ft.  In 1914 the “Foxhound,” commanded by Commander William G. Howard, was employed in various operations in the Mediterranean against the German and Austrian forces.

The seventh “GRASSHOPPER” is a turbine torpedo-boat destroyer, launched at Fairfield in 1910.  She is of 950 tons, 12,500 horse- power, and 27 knots speed.  Her length, beam, and draught are 265ft., 28ft., and 8ft.

HMS Harpy

HMS Harpy - Name History

The seventh “HARPY” is a turbine torpedo-boat destroyer, launched at Cowes in 1910.  She is of 935 tons, 12,500 horse- power, and 27 knots.  Her length, beam, and draught are 265ft., 28ft., and 9ft.   In 1914 the “Harpy,” commanded by Commander G.C. Dickens, was engaged in the Mediterranen, in various operations against the Germans and Austrians.
