The reverse of the postcard on which this image was printed stated :
"Survivors of HM Minesweeper Iris,15th October 1918". we
think this refers to the auxiliary converted ferry from Liverpool, Royal
Iris II, which was used in the Zeebrugge Raid of April 1918, although
this ship returned unscathed. The grandfather in law, William
Barton, of the contributor was among the 'survivors'. |

HMS Boxer - Launched
12/12/42 as a Landing Ship Tank (LST) by Harland and Wolf, Belfast. Took
part in the landings at Sicily, Salerno and Anzio. Refitted as a Fighter
Direction Ship in 44 and later converted again in 46 to a Radar
Training Ship at Portsmouth. She had 4 masts and carried radar outfits
equivalent to those of a Fleet Carrier, a Cruiser and two Destroyers. Placed
in reserve in 56, broken up at Barrow, 5/12/58.

HMS GLENEARN
STOKER PETTY OFFICER THOMAS ROR.. My father
died as a result of injuries received in an explosion on board the HMS
Glenearn off the coast of Papua New Guinea in April 1945. I would be
very grateful for any information anyone may have about either this or my
father's servide in the Royal Navy. Thanking anyone with information

HMS MONTCLARE.... My father's last ship was the HMS Montclare
stationed in Rothesay Bay in the early 1950s.
I believe it to be a supply ship similar to HMS Cyclops..a picture
of which is on this site. Any information about the Montclair or
indeed any advice on how to proceed with my search would be most

** HMS Montclare was an armed merchant cruiser built in 1922 which
became a depot ship in 1942.
TASMANIA.. any further information of the actions leading up to that

HMS POZARICA.. My father served on HMS Bicester, HMS Kilmacolm and
HMS Pozarica during WWII. He is very much alive and well at the age of 81
years and if any of the crews of the above ships are still around, please

HMS Emperor of India
Auxiliary Anti-Aircraft vessel armed with two 2pdr guns fore and
aft and eight 0.5ins machine guns in pairs. Four 3 ins rocket launchers
aft. Requisitioned during the Great War she was renamed Mahratta
(Emperor of India was the name of a Royal Navy battleship). Built at
Thornycroft and launched 1906 returned in 1948. |
HMS Goatfell
Auxiliary Anti-Aircraft vessel armed with four 2pdr guns and six
20mm anti aircraft guns, six 0.5ins guns, sixteen 0.303ins guns and four
3 ins rocket launchers. Built at Denny and launched 1st February 1934,
requisitioned by the Royal Navy and returned May 1946. |
HMS Springbank
Auxiliary Anti-Aircraft vessel with eight 4ins guns in pairs and
eight 2pdr guns. Used as a fighter catapult ship after alterations in
