HMS Acasta  H.09 8th August 1929 Sunk 8th June 1940. during the action with Scharnhorst and Gneisenau
HMS Achates   H.12 4th October 1929 Sunk 31st December 1942. in the Barents sea
HMS Acheron   H.45 18th March 1930  Mined and sunk 17th December 1940. of the Isle of Wight
HMS Active   H.14 9th July 1929 Broken up 1947.
HMS Antelope    H.36 27th July 1929 Broken up 1946.
HMS Anthony   H.40 24th April 1929 Broken up 1948.
HMS Ardent  H.41 26th June 1929 Sunk 8th June 1940. during the action with Scharnhorst and Gneisenau
HMS Arrow  H.42 22nd August 1929 Damaged 4th August 1943 and never repaired. 
RCN Saguenay   D.79  (RCN) 11th July 1930 Damaged in collision and later used as a training ship in 1943.
RCN Skeena   D.59  (RCN) 10th October 1930 Wrecked on 25th October 1944.

HMS Codrington

HMS Codrington  D65 was built by Swan Hunter at wallsend and launched 7th August 1929. she was bombed while in Dover harbour by German aircraft.

HMS Achates

HMS Achates was built at Clydebank and launched 4th October 1929, she was sunk by the German Heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper in the Barents sea 31st December 1942

HMS Acheron was built by Thornycroft  and launched 18th March 1930,  on the 17th December 1940 she was mined off the Isle of Wight

Displacement: 1,540 tons   Speed: 35kts    Complement: 185

Armament: Five 4.7 inch guns, two 2 pdr anti-aircraft guns and eight 21 inch torpedo tubes.

 

HMS Codrington was built by Swan Hunter at Wallsend, and launched 7th August 1929,  she was bombed and sunk in Dover  Harbour 27th July 1940.

HMS Acheron H.45 Built by Thornycroft parsons. and launched 18th March 1930, sunk by hitting mines off the coast of the Isle of White 17th December 1940.

 

HMS Active  Built by Hawthorne Leslie and Launched 9th July 1929. during World War two she was mainly based at Gibraltar, she sank three German U-boats during 1942 -1943. In 1943, the Y Gun was removed and extra depth Charges added. Finally being sold to the breakers 20th May 1947 at Troon, Scotland.

 

HMS Antelope. Built by Hawthorne Leslie and Launched 27th July 1929. Initially serving in the Home Waters, before being transferred to Gibraltar and the Mediterranean. Sank two German U-Boats in 1942 and In 1943, the Y Gun was removed and extra depth Charges added. finally scrapped on the 31st January 1946 at Blyth.

 

HMS Anthony.  Built by Scott's and launched on the 24th April 1929 Initially serving in the Home Waters, before being transferred to Gibraltar and the Mediterranean In 1943, the Y Gun was removed and extra depth Charges added. she sunk a U-Boat in 1944, and finally scrapped at Troon in May 1948.

 

HMS Ardent.  Built by Scott's and launched on the 26th June 1929. was sunk on the 8th June 1940  while in action against the German battle cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. west of Narvik.

 

HMS Arrow  Built by Vickers Armstrong at barrow and launched 22nd August 1929.Initially serving in the Home Waters, before being transferred to Gibraltar and the Mediterranean, finally being scrapped at Taranto between 1944 to May 1949

 

Specifications for RCN Saguenay and RCN Skeena

 

RCN Saguenay D.79  Built By Thornycroft and launched 11th July 1930,  in November 1942, she was badly damaged in a collision with the SS Azara off Newfoundland and was a total loss,  used for training, before being sold for scrap in April 1946.

 

RCN Skeena D.59  Built by Thornycroft and launched 10th October 1930,  she was grounded of the coast of Iceland 25th October 1944, salved and scrapped in 1946.

Armament: Four 4.7 inch guns, two 2 pdr anti-aircraft guns and eight 21 inch torpedo tubes.

My Wife and I are researching HMS Achates. My Uncle having been killed on her during the Battle of the Barents Sea. December 1942. we would welcome any information or contact with survivors of their relatives, can anyone help. contact David Wood  on  UK 0191 4569330
